The ABCs of Boating

My gorgeous first mate told me yesterday as we were enjoying a lazy afternoon on our boat that the ABCs of boating were all out of whack this year. I had never heard of the ABCs of boating before and asked her what it meant.

ABCs
A = Anticipation
B = Boat in water
C = Cruising

Ohhhh now I get it. She's right!  Quick review of our boating season so far.

Anticipation. Lots of Spring cleaning and buffing and waxing (huge difference). Looking forward to Spring.

Welcome Spring and... High water. Still on "A". Anticipation.

Flash forward 2 weeks and its time to move to "B" Boat in Water. Get to Marina at designated time. Watch as the travelift is positioned and then gently lifts the boat off the blocks that it rested on over the Winter and then eases towards the water. Plug installed - batteries fully charged - blower on - hit the starter switch and after some initial grumbling the engine comes to life. After sitting for 6 months its a little cold blooded and doesn't idle. My time hanging in the slings of the travelift is getting to be too long so we decide to throw a rope and pull it over to a nearby slip.

So technically we are on "B" but we're really back to "A"

Stay tuned for part two of the saga.
